Boy, 10, Drowns In 35cm Of Water At Turkish Water Park

A 10-year-old boy has drowned in 35 centimetres of water after reportedly being sucked to the bottom by a faulty pool pump at a Turkish water park.

Deniz Poyraz Karsli died at a water park in the municipality of Cukurova in the southern Turkish region of Adana on 11th June.

The boy’s mother Dilan Karsli said she took her son and nephews to the water park and was resting on a sunbed when her nephews said Deniz was stuck underwater in a children’s pool.

She said she ran to the shallow pool and found her son lying motionless at the bottom, immediately calling for help.

A nurse who brought her child to the park heard the mother’s shouts and rushed to help.

The pair fought to pull the boy free from the vacuum, and eventually managed when the nurse placed her foot over the cover to reduce the pulling power.

The mother said the nurse performed CPR for around 10 minutes and got the boy’s heart beating again, however he was not breathing and oxygen was not arriving to his brain.

The boy was taken to hospital by ambulance, but he passed away the following day.

Deniz’s body was subsequently taken to the morgue at the Forensic Medicine Institute in Adana to undergo an autopsy.

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother has filed a report with the police, accusing the water park of negligence.

According to the news site Milliyet, Soner Cabuk, the owner of the water park, claimed that the pool’s circulation system was working fine when the incident took place and that Deniz was not caught in a vacuum.

Cabuk is quoted as saying: “The pool in question is for toddlers and children between the ages of two and eight to enter under parental control. When we consider the height and weight of the deceased boy, it was not possible for him to be caught in the current of the circulation pump in the pool and drown there.
