This is the moment a Russian hospital doctor calmly reads a book despite having a waiting room full of patients and even tells a woman concerned about her father’s treatment to “go away”.

The incident was filmed at a hospital in the city of Kurgan in the south-western Russian region of Kurgan Oblast, and the footage has been viewed 115,000 times on social media.

In the footage, the doctor is seen sitting at a table while reading a book as the unnamed woman enters the room asking about her father’s treatment.

Apparently uninterested, the doctor says: “I don’t have anything to do with him.”

However, the woman points out that he personally sent her father for an X-ray earlier.

Although the doctor refuses to tell the woman his name, a background voice is heard calling him Evgeniy Ivanovich.

Towards the end of the exchange, the doctor tells the woman to “go away” before angrily getting to his feet and walking away from her.

A spokesperson for the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in Kurgan Oblast said that an internal investigation is underway and that the medic will probably be fired when he returns from unpaid holiday.

The spokesperson added: “The details reported by the patient’s relative have been confirmed. The doctor’s actions were deemed to be unprofessional and violated the rules of medical ethics and deontology.

“Currently, the doctor, a therapist in the admission department of the Kurgan hospital, is on unpaid holiday. When the doctor returns from his vacation, he will be dismissed.”

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health said the patient is now receiving full care at the hospital. It is unclear what the father is being treated for.
