Bob Marleys Son Ziggy Slams Singapore After Man Sentenced To Death Over 2 Lbs Of Cannabis

Bob Marley’s son Ziggy has slammed the Singaporean authorities for sentencing a man to death for bringing 2.2 lbs of cannabis into the island state.

The Jamaican musician, son of music legend Bob Marley, criticised Singapore in a post for his 1.3 million Instagram followers.

According to reports, Marley, 53, was referencing the case of a Singaporean man who lost his appeal against a death sentence for bringing in 1 kilogramme (2.2 lbs) of cannabis into Singapore from Malaysia three years ago.

Omar Yacob Bamadhaj, 41, was arrested in July 2018 at the border and subsequently sentenced to death in February this year with his appeal failing last week.

Marley posted a screenshot of the news story with the message: “So the government of Singapore is going to kill a human being for two pounds of cannabis. Is that just or moral? Singapore what are you doing?

“The article says the “drug” not the plant, still trying to sell us that line still trying to fool the people still killing the people for a plant. F’ing ridiculous in any time or place it’s 2021. It’s illegal in that country I get it but to kill a person for that should also be #ILLEGAL on the planet #EARTH.”

He added: “No one to stand up for this lone human being. There is so much injustice in the world and everyone of them counts!”

Marley continued: “Calling on all companies and individuals who are profiting from the cultivation and commercialization of cannabis if you have a conscience speak out about this injustice and call out Singapore for this despicable act of taking a human life for possessing the plant.”

Singapore currently considers cannabis a Class A drug, the same as heroin, LSD, ecstasy and cocaine.
