This is the bizarre moment Miss Globe Colombia accuses Mexican organisers of rigging it so the host nation would win – even though Czech Republic contestant Karolina Kokesova took the crown.
The Miss Global pageant took place in the city of Oaxaca in the southern Mexican state of the same name, and the Colombian representative Jesenia Orozco has accused the organisers of attempting to crown the Mexican contestant.
According to reports, 60 models took part in the first stage of the contest, but the confusion started during the elimination process.
Local media said that organisation president Van Pham decided to make some last minute changes to the pageant’s format.
In the last-10 round, another candidate was suddenly added, and in the following phase, organisers reportedly decided to include seven more models.
In the final stage, it was agreed that the judges would choose from 11 contestants instead of five, according to local media.
The eventual winner was Czech Republic representative Karolina Kokesova.
Before the winner was announced, Orozco started screaming on the stage calling the revised format a “fraud” which she believed was to help the Mexican candidate win.
She shouted: “It’s a con, it’s a fraud! There is a lot of corruption in Mexico and this is not fair. It is disrespectful to the women here.”
Orozco added: “This is the first time I have even been to Mexico, and I think there are nice people here, but they are giving Latin people a bad name.”
As seen in the footage, several other contestants supported her outburst and one presenter needed to calm her down.
Miss Globe Colombia told local media afterwards: “I was not upset about not winning, but because what they did was unfair. A lot of women came from all over the world to experience a nice moment.”
She claimed that a sponsor had paid for the Mexican contestant to be crowned and that the unnamed model even had her own stylist with her since the start of the contest.
The organisers have yet to respond to Orozco’s allegations.
