A 20-year-old man has been charged with killing his own mother after her dismembered body was found in a black bin bag.

The police reported that the remains of Tien Ly, 46, were found near Eastern and Berkshire avenues in Leslieville in the city of Toronto in the Canadian province of Ontario on 28th March.

The Toronto Police Service (TPS) initially said in a statement on 29th March: “On Monday, March 28, 2022, at 1:30 p.m., officers from 55 Division responded to a call in the Eastern Avenue and Berkshire Avenue area.”

The victim’s body had “obvious signs of trauma to the body, including some dismemberment”, according to the authorities.

TPS stated: “It is reported that officers located a deceased female body in a plastic bag, there were obvious signs of trauma to the body, including some dismemberment.

“The deceased female is described as having a light complexion, 5’2″, 118 lbs., and short dark shoulder-length hair.

“Investigators are appealing to members of the public who were in the area of Berkshire Avenue and Eastern Avenue between 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., who may have observed anyone pushing a foldable shopping cart filled with black waste bags to contact police immediately.”

“Investigators are making efforts to identify the deceased. Images of distinct designs on her fingernails and toe nails have been released, along with the deceased female’s shirt. The clothing has been described as a red coloured, long sleeve Armani Exchange shirt.”

In a follow-up statement the following day, the TPS said: “Homicide investigators have confirmed the identity of the deceased woman as Tien Ly, 46, of Toronto.

“Additionally, investigators are seeking the public’s assistance in locating the deceased woman’s son, Dallas Ly, 20, of Toronto.

“Police are concerned for his well-being.”

On 3rd April, the TPS confirmed that the victim’s son, identified as 20-year-old Dallas Ly, was “responsible” for his mother’s death.

The police arrested the victim’s son in Toronto on 2nd April.

TPS said: “Through investigation, it was determined Dallas Ly was responsible for the death of Tien Ly.

“On Saturday, April 2, 2022, Dallas Ly, 20, of Toronto was arrested. He has been charged with: 1. Second Degree Murder.

“He will appear in court virtually at Old City Hall on Sunday, April 3, 2022, at 10 a.m., in room 112.

“Investigators would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.”
