This is the moment a rider smashes a pensioner off his scooter and later flees the scene when he fears the other biker may have died.

The 72-year-old injured man, surnamed Lin, was left unconscious at the scene of the crash in Jiexie County, which is in the city of Jieyang in South China’s Guangdong Province.

Traffic camera footage shows Lin preparing to do a U-turn and riding his scooter into the middle of the road just as the 22-year-old suspect also surnamed Lin – no relation to the victim – speeds into view.

The younger rider is unable to slow down in time and crashes into the front of the pensioner’s vehicle, sending the victim falling onto the road.

The suspect also appears to fall off his scooter, but several seconds later he rides back into view and tries to wake the injured pensioner.

The footage shows him trying to sit the elderly man up while other witnesses also come to the victim’s aid, but the suspect later gets back on his scooter and rides away.

Reports said the suspect, whose scooter also lacked number plates, fled the scene out of fear of the consequence he would face.

Authorities say the victim survived the accident and is receiving treatment at the Mianhu Overseas Chinese Hospital.

The suspect turned himself in the next day and faces hit-and-run chargers.
