Sultan Kosen, 39, is a Turkish farmer of ethnic Kurdish descent who was born in the south-eastern Turkish city of Mardin and since taking on the role of promoting the country, has visited 127 of the 195 countries in the world.

Sultan, who is 2 metres and 51 centimetres (8 feet and 3 inches) tall, said his next visit is going to be to the USA where he will be attending a festival in Florida, and after that, he is flying to Romania where he is taking part in a cooking competition.

He said he also has enormous hands that are 27.5 cm (10.8 in) long which also landed him a place in the Guinness book of records, and although his large size makes it difficult to walk, he said having big hands is a definite advantage when it comes to cooking.

He also has big feet, which measure 36.5 cm (14.3 in), and has held the Guinness record as the world’s tallest man for 13 years.

His large size comes after he suffered from an illness affecting the pituitary gland that caused him to suffer from gigantism and acromegaly, which is when the pituitary gland produces too much growth hormone.

Thanks to his great height, he holds the Guinness World Record for the tallest living man.

Kosen said he eventually got used to being so tall, but he admits it sometimes causes him some difficulties and discomfort.

He married a 175-centimetre- (5’9”) tall Syrian woman named Merve Dibo 10 years his junior in 2013.

In an interview, he said his biggest problem with his wife was communication, as he speaks Turkish, whereas his wife only speaks Arabic.

Despite the communication problem, the marriage lasted several years until the couple recently divorced.

His success as an ambassador has also helped him earn money to adapt his house in Dede village of Derik district of Mardin to fit his large size, and he likes to grow flowers in his garden.

He said: “I am proud to be able to take part in activities to support tourism. It’s great for me when I see how much I get people’s attention. Everybody wants to have their photograph taken with.”
