This beautiful young doctor has fallen to her death while trying to rescue her pet cat from her family’s fifth-floor balcony.

Irem Busra Ungul, 27, who worked as a GP at the Salgamli Family Health Centre in the district of Hayrabolu in the north-western Turkish province of Tekirdag, travelled to the city of Istanbul to visit her family over the weekend.

When her cat named Faik suddenly escaped to the balcony of her family’s fifth-floor flat, Irem rushed out, fearing that the animal would fall.

However, while she tried to take the cat from the balcony rail, she lost her balance and fell to her death, according to the news site Haberler.

The Tekirdag Provincial Health Directorate said in a statement following the GP’s death: “A dear member of our health community and esteemed colleague, Irem Busra Ungul, passed away in Istanbul.

“Our colleague, who was born in Tekirdag in 1994 and graduated from Samsun 19 Mayis University Faculty of Medicine in 2019, provided valuable service at the Community Health Centre, Saka Huseyin Family Health Centre, and Salgamli Family Health Centre in the district of Hayrabolu since graduating.

“The news of our colleague’s death has deeply saddened our healthcare community. May God’s mercy be with her. We wish peace to her family, loved ones, and health community members. We are so sorry for our loss.”

The young woman’s funeral took place in Hayrabolu.
