This is the moment a huge bear stands on its hind legs and taps a woman on the shoulder apparently to ask her for food.

The incident was reportedly filmed in the city of Monterrey in the north-eastern Mexican state of Nuevo Leon and was later widely shared on social media.

Initial reports said the encounter took place at the city’s Chipinque Ecological Park, however, officials there have since denied the claims and as such, it is unclear exactly where the incident took place.

In the video, two bears are seen rummaging through a bin before one of them is warned off by the other.

The rejected bear wanders across the street towards a small group of people where it sniffs two women.

The bear then stands on its hind legs, positions itself behind the woman and then politely taps on her on the shoulder as if asking for a handout.

The Chipinque Ecological Park said on Facebook that the video was not filmed on their premises and that staff members would have intervened in this kind of situation.

The park said: “The most important thing is to go to a safe place to avoid a situation, no matter what kind of animal you come across.”

Netizen ‘Lessmty’ said: “Poor animals, they are hungry because we keep destroying their natural habitat. Then we say ‘no’ when they ask us for help. They should say ‘no’ to us when a new building is erected in their territory.”

‘Kendalvi’ commented: “The bears are brazen, but it would be curtains for them if they did something to those people.”
