Bayern Munich defender Joshua Kimmich has said “I do not know what is best for my career in two, three years” with Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola reportedly interested.

German international Kimmich, 24, made the comments during an interview with German sports magazine ‘Kicker’ where he hinted at a possible exit from Bayern despite being under contract with the club until 2023.

When asked about his future Kimmich said: “My goal, for now, is clear, and that is to shape an era with Bayern Munich – with the very big ambition of winning the Champions League.”

Regarding questions about the possibility of moving on from the German club giants he said “I can’t really answer them now. Because I don’t know what’s best for my career in two or three years” seemingly leaving the door open on a possible exit from the club.

Local media report former Barcelona boss Guardiola, 49, is a big fan of the defender and could make a bid for him.

Bayern Munich have not won the Champions League since 2013 in their 2-1 victory over Borussia Dortmund at Wembley.

Kimmich noted they were not performing as they had been in the past by saying Bayern “were not so dominant on the pitch last season and also this season.

“It was different when I came here. When we went onto the pitch we knew that opponents were going to need to be having a really good day to pose any threat to us.”

Kimmich also said he would not rule out trying a new position after predominantly being used a right-back as he is comfortable playing as a defensive midfielder saying that “I always played it when I was younger.”

Bayern are second in the Bundesliga with 39 points while RB Leipzig sit top with 40. They are set to play Chelsea on 25th February in the Champions League round of 16.
