Barcelona boss Quique Setien has reportedly lost the trust of some of his players who do not see him as “capable of managing, training or running a club as big as Barcelona”.
News of players losing their trust in Barcelona boss Setien, 61, after less than three months since taking the post come from radio programme ‘Club Mitjanit’ (Midnight Club) broadcast by Spanish radio network Catalunya Radio.
Spanish journalist Laia Tudel, who works on the radio programme, claimed: “Some players from Barcelona don’t trust Setien.”
Tudel went on to say: “Specifically they do not see Setien capable of managing, training or running a club as big as Barcelona.”
The news comes after Barcelona’s 2-0 loss to Real Madrid in ‘El Clasico’ on Sunday which saw Barcelona knocked down to the second position by ‘Los Blancos’ who now sit top of La Liga with a one-point advantage.
The Spanish journalist also claimed “they (the players) do not blame everything” on Setien as there are players who also consider “the management by club directors” shares the blame.
The doubts reportedly started to surface after Barcelona’s 2-0 loss to Valencia in La Liga on 25th January however things have only turned worse since the defeat to Real Madrid.
Local media report there was criticism from players after Setien’s decision to substitute Chilean midfielder Arturo Vidal, 32, off in the 69th minute of the match which some saw as key to sealing Barcelona’s defeat this past Sunday.
Setien was hired to manage the club after former Barcelona boss Ernesto Valverde, 56, was sacked after the side’s 3-2 loss to Atletico Madrid saw them knocked out of the Spanish Supercup.
