Zeng can be seen walking along a pavement holding a meat cleaver in either hand.
As fruit vendors and other witnesses run from him, he hacks boxes of bananas and other produce nearby before disappearing into the street, out of camera shot.
However, the same street corner surveillance camera shows the suspect then running back with his weapons raised and heading in the direction of the fruit stand, but this time a group of shopkeepers who have gathered by the roadside bar his way.
The shop owners armed with broomsticks, mops and wooden poles then fight back against the suspect, who falls to the ground when someone clobbers him over the head with a big stick.
The shopkeepers then take the man’s cleavers as he lies injured on the ground, with local residents encircling him.
The police say Zeng’s four victims are in stable condition, and that the suspect has been detained.
They have yet to elaborate on his mental condition.
