Premier League clubs have been put on alert after a Real Madrid legend said Gareth Bale was on his “last chance” for the club.

The Welsh winger has been criticised by Madrid’s former striker Pedja Mijatovic, who served as the club’s director of football from 2006 until 2009.

Speaking to Spanish radio programme ‘El Larguero’ on Spanish radio station Cadena Ser ahead of the Clasico tonight, Mijatovic said: “If Bale plays it is the last chance he is going to have. We are all annoyed with his play.

“Vinicius is playing well and Bale has his difficulties. Vinicius excites and plays better at the Bernabeu.”

Mijatovic, 50, suggested Spanish winger Lucas Vazquez will play “to defend against Jordi Alba. He drops back and helps out a lot down the left”.

Real Madrid take on arch-rivals Barcelona in the first leg of the Copa del Rey semi-final tonight.

Speaking about the match, the former Yugoslavia striker said: “Barcelona keep to their style. They’re compact. Maybe defensively they leave some space. They have tremendous attacking power and in five minutes they can score three goals.

“They are leading the league and are in the Champions League and the Copa del Rey. They are a team who are trying to win everything. I’m jealous of those players who get to play tomorrow.”
