This is the moment a bald eagle swoops down to claim a shark that had just been captured by a fisherman in Florida.

Chad and Amanda Rissman who were visiting their family in Pinellas County decided to get in a spot of fishing as Chad had not had much opportunity to practice since getting his fishing licence.

After failing to get a bite, there were getting ready to leave when suddenly they realised they had got a nibble.

They began reeling in the fish which turned out to be a shark, but as they were about to go in to cut it free, the bald eagle swooped down and laid claim to the shark. It then proceeded to eat in front of them.

Local wildlife officials said that the bald eagle was a bird named Eugene that had previously been looked after by humans after breaking its leg in 2017.

They said that the eagle had missed out on the opportunity to learn how to hunt from its parents, and it appears now to be happy to go for an easy meal when it is available.

Chad was with his uncle Darrin Vick who told Fox News “We were just sitting there talking. The line got tight and slack.

“I was reeling it in my uncle was going to grab the line.

“As the leader is coming up, I said I’d get a hold of the shark.”

That was when the bald eagle swooped and he added: “The way everything lined up, the sunset; I couldn’t have asked for a better time.”
