An Indian Bollywood star is in hot water after he snatched the phone of an airport official after spotting the man trying to take a selfie.

The footage was shot at GOA airport earlier this week and shows the actor Salman Khan leaving having been spotted by fans including the airport official, who tries to take a selfie as his idol walks by.

But the actor then reaches over and grabs the phone, and walks off with it as the bemused airport official appears unsure what to do. As he then moves to try and get the phone back, another man who looks as if he was part of the actor’s entourage steps in the way and prevents him access.

The actor had an angry look on his face but he found little sympathy from most people including the students’ wing of Congress, the National Students’ Union of India (NSUI).

The organisation’s president Ahraz Mulla wrote to Goa’s Chief Minister Pramod Sawant saying that the actor should be banned from Goa and that he should apologise for his rude behaviour.

He said: “I strongly believe and know that photography is not allowed on a defence airport, but we also need to understand the intention of the fan with which he was clicking the selfie without doing any harm to anyone.”

He said the actor had a track record of violent behaviour towards fans and that taking the law into his own hands was “not acceptable”.

Salman Khan who is 54 years old has been an actor for more than three decades, and according to Forbes is the highest-ranked Indian on their celebrity entertainers network with a fortune of 37.7 million USD (28.9 million GBP).

As well as his Bollywood career he has worked as a TV presenter and also promotes humanitarian causes with his charity the “Being Human Foundation”.

It is unclear how or when the young man had his phone returned.
