A Michigan urologist who worked in the Jewish community performing circumcisions during religious rites has been charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old boy.

The new charges come after he was already charged with assaulting a 30-year-old man.

Doctor Zvi Levran, 66, of Farmington Hills, a city in Oakland County, in the US state of Michigan, faces a second-degree criminal sexual conduct charge after he allegedly assaulted the teenager in January 2018.

He also faces a fourth-degree criminal sexual conduct charge for allegedly assaulting the 30-year-old man in December 2020 at Levran’s Farmington Hills home.

There are now reportedly nearly two dozen criminal allegations against the doctor, who has been held at the Oakland County Jail for weeks now, with multiple bonds being set, totalling over USD 2 million.

Levran, who Farmington Hills police said gave medical assistance to youth hockey teams in Michigan and Minnesota for 20 years, was first arrested in October before being charged with multiple counts of criminal sexual conduct in November.

Several of his patients told the police that the alleged assaults took place during examinations related to youth hockey.

The doctor also reportedly worked in the Jewish community as a mohel, performing religious circumcision rites. A mohel is a Jew trained in the practice of brit milah, the “covenant of circumcision”.

Levran’s lawyer, Joe Lavigne, reportedly said on Thursday that he is “looking forward to defending the case”, with Levran pleading not guilty so far.

The doctor is now also facing additional charges after numerous patients came forwards with a number of sexual assault allegations.

He is accused of abusing patients at his home office, with the Farmington Hills Police Department saying they had received 33 additional tips about the urologist.

Investigations are ongoing.
