A university student stabbed her older brother to death during a blazing row about getting back with her ex-boyfriend.
The horror slaying took place at a home in Didim, Turkey, on 31st December as the family celebrated New Year’s Eve.
Accused Gulcin Ucan, 21, later told police she had only picked up a knife in self-defence.
Mother Fadime Ucan, son Onur Ucan, and his wife Sila had travelled from Ankara to visit Gulcin for New Year’s Eve.
But Gulcin – a second-year student at Didim Vocational School – saw red when her brother Onur rowed with her about seeing her ex.
During the fight, reported local media, she grabbed a bread knife from the kitchen and plunged it into her 29-year-old brother’s chest.
He collapsed to the floor covered in blood and was declared dead by paramedics when they arrived.
His body was sent to the Forensic Medicine Institute in Izmir for a post-mortem examination, while police seized a hysterical Gulcin at the scene.
She is reported to have said in her statement: “I had an argument with my brother because of my ex-boyfriend and I got very angry.
“He didn’t want me to see him. We started fighting over him.
“I couldn’t control my anger and I grabbed a knife to protect myself. It wasn’t my intention to kill him. I wanted to protect myself, I regret it.”
She has reportedly been remanded in custody.
