An elderly babysitter has been charged with murder for allegedly killing a three-month-old baby girl who had been crying because she was sick with a fever.

The incident took place in the city of Depok in the province of West Java in Indonesia when the babysitter, identified as Lomrah, 66, was hired to take care of the baby identified only by as Baby M.

But on her fourth day of work Lomrah was left alone with the baby when she called a taxi to pick her up, according to police information.

However the driver was suspicious as she was acting strangely and appeared to have a dead baby in her arms.

Instead, he alerted the neighbours and one them, a doctor, checked the baby and confirmed it was dead.

After alerting the police, Lomrah was arrested and later reportedly confessed to killing the baby. 

City police chief, Didik Sugiarto, said that the victim had annoyed its carer by crying as it was ill and had a fever and would not stop, even after being fed with a bottle of milk.

She said she placed the baby on her stomach until she stopped breathing, although according to an autopsy the baby had been pinched on her cheek, nose and lips until she started to bleed.

Lomrah, who was charged with murder, is facing up to 15 years in prison.
