Baby Left Blind And Paralysed On One Side After Druggie Dad Shook Him For Disturbing His Sleep

A 35-year-old father has been sentenced to seven years in prison for causing permanent damage to his baby son by violently shaking him.

The Limburg an der Lahn regional court in the central German state of Hesse found the father, name not disclosed, guilty of grievous bodily harm and severe mistreatment on 8th September.

His son was only five months old when he shook him to the point of disability. As a result, the boy will remain mentally and physically disabled, almost blind, and paralysed on one side.

The incident took place on 10th February 2020 when the boy’s mother left the home to run a few errands in a district of Villmar.

She said she had just put the baby to bed after the father smoked a cannabis bong and wanted to lie down as well.

However, the baby became restless and started to cry for something and the father, allegedly high on cannabis, became overstressed.

He is quoted as saying in a voice message: “I hate all this.”

The father took his baby son out of the cot and violently shook him for a few seconds, a short space of time that changed the infant’s life forever.

The boy had to undergo emergency surgery after suffering a severe shaking fit after the incident.

The little boy is now almost blind and paralysed on one side and can neither crawl nor sit.

According to local media, the father first claimed that the baby was injured when he fell while holding him because of his drug use, however, he later made a partial confession.

His defence team requested that he be placed in a prison for drug addicts because of his substance use.

Meanwhile, prosecutors called for a prison term of eight years and six months.

The court sentenced the father to seven years in prison.
