A family including a two-month-old baby have died after a father set himself on fire because his wife was too tired to have sex with him after giving birth.

Cops say Kong Chamnang, 34, locked himself in the family’s home, pictured, poured petrol over himself and set himself on fire as his wife, Chy Srey Mom, 33, and their two-month-old son Meta, slept in another room.

All three lost their lives in the blaze which destroyed the house in the village of Svay in the Puok district of north-western Cambodia’s Siem Reap Province.

Neighbours told cops that Chamnang had been demanding sex from his wife but she had refused saying she was too tired after giving birth and then having to care for the baby.

Puok district police chief Tep Pumsen said Ms Mom had earlier burst into a neighbour’s house carrying the baby and pleading with the neighbour to talk to her husband about his constant demands for sex.

Chamnang, a construction worker, had reportedly become increasingly angry and frustrated at the sex ban, even accusing his wife of having an affair with another man.

Chief Pumsen said: “A neighbour said the incident occurred because the husband demanded sex, but his wife did not agree because she was weak, having recently given birth.”

The neighbour told police they had later seen Chamnang returning home carrying two four litre cans of petrol.

He locked the door from the inside, doused himself in petrol and set himself on fire, while his wife’s parents were outside speaking to the concerned neighbours.

Firefighters raced to the scene but they were unable to control the blaze in time to save the family of three.
