A three-month-old baby has burned alive inside an ambulance after an oxygen bottle exploded and paramedics along with baby’s reportedly fled leaving the tot inside.

Footage filmed on the Trans-European Motorway in the district of Silivri in the north-western Turkish province of Istanbul shows the burning ambulance by the roadside.

According to local media, the ambulance was travelling to the province of Edirne with baby Rojin in an incubator next to her mum when an oxygen bottle exploded for as yet unknown reasons.

The baby’s mother and ambulance staff leapt clear of the burning vehicle, but Rojin was left inside the incubator.

The emergency services were called to the scene and firefighters extinguished the burning vehicle while police began their investigation.

According to local media, the distraught mother, identified as Necmiye S., broke down upon witnessing her daughter burning alive inside the ambulance and needed to be tranquilised by paramedics.

Reports said that another ambulance arrived to take her to hospital for treatment.

In a statement, she said: “Suddenly, something happened and fire shot out of the back. Paramedics got out and I also jumped out of the ambulance.

“The paramedics could not get in to save my baby and ran away. There were three people in there with my daughter, but when the fire started there was no one.”

The police investigation is ongoing.
