An Austrian ‘The Simpsons’ fanatic who collected memorabilia in a dedicated part of his house for years has decided to sell the lot for EUR 40,000.

Christian Seywald, 38, who is a huge fan of the long-running American animated series, has over 3,400 items displayed at his home in the Austrian town of Adnet.

His collection is so vast he stores them in a dedicated section of his basement at home.

It all started when Seywald bought a booklet from a tobacco shop in 2003. He told local media: “There was a subscription on the back and I thought to myself ‘that would be interesting, let’s do that!’

“I had the booklets sent to my home by subscription. My whole passion arose from this, which ultimately led to the collection.”

Many of the items in Seywald’s collection are unique pieces and still in their original packaging, including a rare pink figure of Homer Simpson.

Christian Seywald explained: “This figure is very rare. It’s like this, it is packed inside a box and you don’t know what’s inside. A figure found once in every 10 boxes is clearly not as valuable as a figure found once in 1,000 boxes. This is really one of those characters that is very, very, very rare.”

However, the owner is now offering the whole collection to anyone willing to pay EUR 40,000.

He explained: “Whenever I bought something, I always wrote down how much it cost. That means that I can determine the value of the entire collection very precisely. And then of course, there’s my personal fee. That’s how I decided on EUR 40,000.”
