An Austrian dad has been arrested for killing his wife and their two children after she told him she was planning to leave him.

According to local media, the wife named locally as Tugba, 29, told her husband she was leaving him together with her two children and packed a few of their things ready to leave.

Samet A., a travel company owner, 31, became so angry that he took a kitchen knife from his home in Kottingbrunn, a town in the district of Baden in Lower Austria, and allegedly stabbed his wife four times before allegedly stabbing 2-year-old daughter Tuana.

He then allegedly smothered and suffocated their 11-month-old son, who has not been named, before calling the police and telling them what he had done before sitting down in their living room and waiting for them to arrive and arrest him.

The 11-month-old, who has not been named, was taken to hospital but nothing could be done to save him and he died a short while later.

Public Prosecutor Erich Habitzl said: “All stab wounds were in their upper bodies. The young boy was suffocated. The bodies were found in the house and the knife was found in the kitchen. The house was chaos.”

The bodies of the victims will be taken to Turkey for burial when released by police following investigations.

The mental state of the accused is currently being assessed.

The family were born in Austria but spoke Turkish at home and were described as conservative at home in their family life, according to local media.

Meanwhile, neighbours described them as friendly.

Defence lawyer Mirsad Musliusaid: “What happened is indescribable, our sympathies go out to the family. The background is being investigated and we will be speaking with the client. He was definitely suffering psychologically.

It is now claimed that Samet A. also attacked a fellow prisoner whilst being held in Wiener Neustadt this week. The investigations continue.
