The driver of a classic Aston Martin has been left “shaken but not stirred” after crashing into a cultural centre in France during a cop chase.

Many netizens wondered if the police had caught James Bond, but the bungling motorist did not even have a driving licence let alone a licence to kill.

Also, the classic car was not even his to smash up.

The French police shared photos of the crash on Twitter, and users were quick to speculate about the model of the car.

Judging from the pictures, it appears to be an Aston Martin DB6 so not James Bond’s vintage car which is an Aston Martin DB5.

Nonetheless, the Aston Martin DB6 is still a classic collectible car that comes with a price tag ranging anywhere from GBP 250,000 to GBP 500,000.

The incident took place in the commune of Grigny in the southern suburbs of the French capital Paris when police asked the driver to stop the car and show his papers on 30th November.

However, the driver suddenly accelerated and the car, which according to local media is worth hundreds of thousands of euros, sped off.

The suspect’s bid for freedom was short lived as only a few hundred metres later, the car left the road and ended up crashing into a cultural centre.

According to French media, the car almost hit a scooterist.

The Aston Martin suffered significant damage but the total cost of repair is not yet known.

According to French newspaper Le Parisien, the driver did not have a driving licence, and he was also not the owner of the vehicle.

The driver, who was not named but who local media said is known to the police, was promptly arrested. It is unclear if he has been charged.

The police took to social media to share photos of the accident scene. They said: “This afternoon a driver refused to comply and ended up crashing into the side of the Sydney Bechet Cultural Centre in Grigny. Thankfully, no one was injured. The driver was arrested.”

One netizen going by the handle ‘EricPerrinPACA’ said: “An Aston Martin? They busted 007!”

‘Alain Perrot’ commented: “His name is Bond, James Bond.”

Eagle-eyed ‘Inspecteurcrou1’ wrote: “The dude crashes a DB6 into the cultural centre in Grigny! That being said, I don’t think Bond ever had a DB6.”
