Army Major Kills Wife And 2 Kids In Child Support Row

This army major has been arrested for allegedly murdering his wife and two children after he was told to pay child support for the youngsters.

Major Peter Mugure, 34, was arrested for the murder of his daughter Shanice Maua, 10, and Prince Michael, 5, and his estranged wife Joyce Soyombua, 31, in the market town of Nanyuki in Kenya’s Laikipia County.

The trio went missing one day after visiting the suspect at the Laikipia Air Base where he worked on 26th October.

The victim’s bodies were reportedly found buried and stacked on top of each other in a field in the town on 16th November and Mugure was arrested.

Local media report the Kenya Defence Forces Major had a strained relationship with his wife and had initially denied being Prince’s father as he was conceived after they separated.

The mother reportedly filed a complaint against the suspect for neglecting his children and after a DNA test proved he was father to both youngsters he was ordered to pay child support to them.

Farrizanah Katengu, a friend of the murdered woman, told local media that the army major had been unhappy at this decision.

Forensic scientists are working to determine the cause of death of the victims.

Local media report Mugure is being kept in custody for 21 days as investigators seek to keep him detained him as the investigation continues. No motive has been provided for the crime.

A labourer at the airbase where the suspect worked named in reports as Collins Pamba, 21, is alleged have helped him bury the bodies and reportedly led detectives to the burial site. He has been arrested.
