This dramatic footage shows LAPD officers saving the life of an armed suspect high on drugs who suddenly collapsed while in custody due to overdosing.

Newsflash obtained the footage from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), along with a statement according to which the unnamed suspect caught the attention of the patrol unit who attempted to stop a man walking in the middle of a street in Los Angeles, California, in the USA.

The man reportedly refused, clutched his bag and ran away.

The officers reportedly suspected the man might be armed with a firearm and began following him.

One of the officers can be seen chasing the suspect and asking him to stop running.

During the following, the suspect suddenly collapsed.

One of the officers then noticed that the suspect was having difficulty breathing and was possibly overdosing.

Another officer sat the suspect up and monitored his breathing.

When the suspect went limp, two officers immediately started doing CPR while waiting for an ambulance to arrive.

Los Angeles Fire Department Paramedics later arrived and transported the man to a local hospital where he was treated and cleared for booking, according to the statement.

The suspect was subsequently charged with illegal possession of a weapon, the police said.

Following the incident, the LAPD said it is proud to highlight the extraordinary in everyday police work.
