The Prime Minister of Armenia has revealed he has tested positive for COVID-19 on his birthday along with his entire family.

Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan made the announcement today (Monday) in a live Facebook video as he celebrates his 45th birthday.

In the video, Pashinyan said: “I didn’t have any symptoms, I decided to take a test as I was planning to visit the frontline. With regret, I must admit that it was positive.”

The politician added that his wife, Anna Hakobyan, 42, and their three children were also infected and are currently self-isolating.

He said: “We have no symptoms, our temperatures are normal. Now we are all self-isolating, I will work from home. There are all the amenities for this.”

Pashinyan suggested that he may have been infected with the virus in a meeting when a waiter not wearing gloves gave him a glass of water.

The PM said the waiter had also tested positive for COVID-19.

Pashinyan said he hoped he had not infected any of his colleagues and added: “Our strategy and tactics remain the same – we must learn to live with coronavirus.”

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University Armenia, which has a population of around 3 million people, has registered 9,282 cases of COVID-19 with 131 related deaths.
