This is the moment a couple crossing the road on a red light are sent flying high into the air by a car travelling at high speed.

The incident was filmed in the city of Krasnodar in the south-western Russian region of Krasnodar Krai when the unnamed victims, both aged 58, tried to cross the junction arm-in-arm.

A speeding Mazda driver, aged 33, ploughed into the couple and they died on the scene from their injuries, according to reports.

In the footage, the couple are seen waiting at the crossing with their arms linked.

After a car passes, they attempt to cross the road even though the pedestrian light appears to be red.

Believing the coast is clear, the 58-year-old couple walk into the street moments before the speeding Mazda enters the frame and ploughs into them.

Both pedestrians are sent flying high into the air by the impact.

The police investigation is ongoing.

Netizens had a lot to say about the tragic incident, with some online commentators believing that the couple were at fault for trying to cross on a red light while others accused the Mazda driver of going too fast.

Netizen ‘Tatyana Skulkova’ said: “If the car is travelling at 60kph (37 mph), then the pedestrians do not die. They would probably be injured, but still alive. The driver’s fault is obvious.”

‘Anjela Safaryan’ commented: “Not only do the couple try to cross on a red light, they do it so slowly.”
