A hairstylist has been arrested for murdering his more famous hairstylist brother and their mother, and then trying to cover up the killings.
Jhonier Leal, whose age was not given, is accused of stabbing his brother Mauricio Leal and their mother Marleny Hernandez on 21st November.
He is also accused of concealing or destroying evidence by making it seem as if the brother had committed suicide after killing their mother.
Autopsies carried out on the bodies of the two victims showed that they had been dead for at least 30 hours when they were found.
The victims were allegedly killed in the luxury villa they lived in located in the town of La Calera, near the Colombian capital Bogota, in the department of Cundinamarca.
The police discovered that a period of time had passed between the death of Marleny and that of Mauricio, and they believe the suspect forced his brother to write a suicide note to make it appear as though he had killed the mother before taking his own life.
In the note, the successful hairstylist, whose clients reportedly included actresses and ‘Miss’ beauty queens, apologised and said goodbye to his family, adding that he was leaving his valuable property to his brothers and nephews.
The note said: “I love you, forgive me, I can’t take it anymore. I leave everything to my nephews and brothers, with all my love; forgive me, mum…”
Jhonier was arrested with a cut on his hand that he claimed happened while cutting a client’s hair, as he also works as a stylist, but his salon was not nearly as successful as Mauricio’s, according to the news site El Mundo.
In addition to the two murders, the Public Prosecutor’s Office is also investigating the origin of Mauricio’s substantial fortune, with claims he received financial support from a criminal organisation, as his business was closed for most of the first year of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The suspect is currently being held in custody as the police investigate the two deaths and the origins and ownership of the family’s assets, including two properties, two vehicles, a motorbike, and two companies.
