A pair of cows set for slaughter for the Muslim holiday Eid caused chaos when they apparently tried to hide out in a supermarket.

Footage of the escape bid shows the cows casually walking in through the front door of the convenience store in the north-eastern Turkish city of Bayburt.

They had reportedly been brought to market from a nearby village to be sold and slaughtered for the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha, which begins on 9th July.

But the cows seemed to have other ideas and fled into the shop.

As the pair take their time wandering through the aisles, staff try to guide them back to the door.

After having a look at the dairy section, they took one bum steer when they seemed to be inspecting the meat counter, which could well be their final destination.

Supermarket owner Emrah Isasir said: “We joked among ourselves that they came to inspect our dairy products.”

He added: “We have dairy products in our markets, and it gave us the impression that they came to inspect them.

“We joked with our friends, saying, ‘Were they checking the milk?'”
