Apartment Gas Blast Fills Street With Huge Fireball

This is the moment a reported gas blast in a block of flats causes a huge fireball and sends debris flying through the air before setting off the car alarms in a nearby car park.

According to the public prosecutor’s office in the city of Tver in the western Russian region of Tver Oblast, the explosion occurred when an unnamed resident was preparing dinner for her family.

At the time of the blast, six people were in the flat on Guseva Boulevard, including two children.

Reports said that two people have been hospitalised with burns while 52 residents in the block of flats were evacuated.

Fourteen residents have been accommodated in the Junost Hotel while the others have found temporary arrangements with friends and family, according to local media.

A spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations said the explosion caused damage to walls and fittings in the apartment block, but no supporting structures were harmed.

Tver Oblast governor Igor Rudenya has vowed to support the evacuated residents by all means necessary.

The authorities also said that an emergency commission has been set up to investigate the suspected gas explosion.

The probe is ongoing.

Moments afterwards, the car alarms of several parked vehicles are seen being set off by the powerful blast.
