Police have arrested a young woman for stabbing a station attendant in the back with a fruit knife after she missed her train.

Images from Shenzhen North Railway Station in China’s southern province of Guangdong show commotion in the major transport hub following the stabbing incident on 18th June.

Authorities say the traveller, who was identified by her surname Luo, 23, had been queuing at the turnstiles at gate B16 when she attacked the staff member at 2:47pm local time after missing her train.

A picture taken at the scene shows the station attendant surnamed Liu, 27, bleeding heavily, with blood staining the back of her white shirt as a distressed colleague holds on to her.

The suspect can also be seen standing nearby wearing a pink top and pulling a blue suitcase.

The wounded attendant is said to be in stable condition after being treated at a local hospital.

Shenzhen police have said the woman used a folding paring knife during the attack.

But officials are still trying to determine how exactly she managed to bring it into the railway station past the security checkpoint metal detectors.

It was still unclear at the time of writing whether the suspect’s actions were the result of her being delayed or denied priority entrance at the checkpoint.
