An angry wife has reportedly had her husband falsely quarantined for COVID-19 after a row at home.
The unnamed wife told a local hospital that her partner, who comes from the city of El-Mahalla El-Kubra in the northern Egyptian governorate of Gharbia, contracted COVID-19 after travelling to South Korea, according to reports.
Local media said she reported the unnamed man after the couple had a row at home.
The local authorities quarantined the husband in a hospital and carried out tests.
He was promptly released when he explained the situation to doctors, and tests confirmed he had not contracted COVID -19 or any other infectious diseases.
After being discharged from hospital, the man chose to stay with his sister in the capital Cairo rather than return home to be with his wife, according to local media.
It is unclear whether the wife is being investigated by the authorities for the alleged false report.
Local media said that Egypt has two confirmed cases of COVID-19 so far despite social media claims that the virus is spreading quickly in the North African country.
Health Minister Hala Zayed urged residents to stop believing in online “rumours” about the spread of the virus, and advised them to trust the ministry’s announcements.
