This is the moment a furious taxi driver smashes up a car with a bat because the driver hit his cab and refused to get out and pay for the damage.

The road-rage incident was filmed by a bystander in the central Mexican capital Mexico City and posted on Facebook where it has been viewed over 350,000 times.

According to local media, the taxi driver and the motorist have been involved in a traffic dispute before.

In the footage, the cabbie, wearing a red baseball cap and jacket, is seen arguing with the driver who remains inside his car.

The taxi driver then nips back to his damaged cab to grab what appears to be a small bat.

While other road users are gathered around the driver’s stationary vehicle, the cabbie starts to hit the windscreen with the bat.

The unnamed taxi driver then hits other parts of the car before returning to his cab and driving away with his rear bumper apparently damaged.

After the footage was widely shared on social media, the local authorities announced that they are investigating the matter and that the taxi driver has temporarily been suspended.

For the moment, however, his taxi licence has not been taken away.

The investigation is ongoing.
