An ex-husband has been arrested for shooting his former wife with a taser leaving her unable to work for days as she recovered from the shock.

The scene took place in the commune of Castelnaud-de-Gratecambe, in the Lot-et-Garonne department in the Occitanie region of south-western France, on Monday 28th December.

According to French newspaper Sud Ouest, the 58-year-old, who has not been named, is in custody at the Monflanquin gendarmerie, in the same department.

The suspect is alleged to have tasered his ex-wife to teach her a lesson over their divorce, according to Sud Ouest.

The man reportedly went to the ex-wife’s home and when the ex-wife went outside, he allegedly tasered her. The victim was found to be so injured that she was unable to work for several days.

Arrested the next day, the ex-husband was taken into custody at the Monflanquin gendarmerie. He is due to be presented to the magistrate of the public prosecutor’s office today, Wednesday (30 December).

According to the French Public Service, it is legal to own a “contact impulse weapon that causes incapacitation and that operates at close range. For example, a baton or an electric fist, but not a taser.”

Possession of such a weapon without just cause is punishable with a fine of EUR 15,000 (GBP 13,551).
