This footage shows a woman’s busy balcony which she says has been overrun by hundreds of sparrows for the past five years.

Qin Zishan, who lives in the city of Nanning in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, said she first noticed flocks of sparrows taking shelter under the awning of her balcony during a rainy summer’s day in 2014.

She lives on the 8th floor of a tower block in the Zaishui Yifang Residential District, where neighbours say they have not had the same number of Eurasian tree sparrow (Passer montanus) visitors.

Ms Qin said: “I think it’s so rare to see in urban environments, and I really don’t know the reason behind it.

“I think we have a good surroundings in our residential area.

“These sparrows start coming in 2014, At first there were a few dozen, but then more and more arrived.

“I once took a photo and counted them with a pen – there were around 500 on my balcony.

“They now come every season and are here from day until night, and they never leave droppings on my balcony.

“They come in large numbers especially when no one is home. As soon as someone arrives home, they fly away.”

Ms Qin said she planned to continue living in harmony with her sparrow guests.
