Paris Saint-Germain superstar Neymar has been mercilessly mocked by former Manchester United midfielder Ander Herrera after he donned a yellow vest leading to comparisons with airport ground staff.

Neymar wore the fluorescent yellow vest for Paris Saint-Germain’s (PSG) big match against Olympique Lyonnais (4-2) yesterday (Sunday) at the Parc des Princes stadium in Paris while watching from the sidelines due to his injury.

The injured star – who wore matching bright yellow trainers – was made fun of, with Ander Herrera saying that he looked like a ‘runway agent’ (‘agent de piste’ in French) working at an airport.

Herrera said on Instagram: “Good victory and it’s great to have the visit of a plane director signals (sic).”

But local media were quick to point out that utility clothing is very fashionable, with big brands such as Off-White and Louis Vuitton coming up with designs featuring them.

Other sportsmen such as Karim Benzema and NBA star Russell Westbrook have also been seen sporting them.

But netizens were not impressed, with ‘Canut’ saying: “Do they know they don’t look like anything?”

And ‘omboy14’ added: “His way to request a salary increase. Next time, he will prepare a sign, and if necessary he will distribute leaflets at the entrance to the stadium.”

While other netizens made comparisons with the Yellow Vest protest movement that has rocked France for months.

‘touroutoupay’ said: “Neymar RDV Saturday on the Champs Elysees with your helmet and a mask…”

And ‘GUEDES.ESTDE.RETOUR’ added: “According to the police Neymar could be seen bot far from the Rotonde.” The La Rotonde brasserie was set on fire earlier this year. The area has become a yellow vest symbol and the location of numerous marches.

While ‘Miloud Kotbi’ said: “It’s official: Neymar supports the yellow vests, the Brazilian loves France more than ever!”
