Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly called Inter Milan striker Mauro Icardi in a desperate bid to take the striker to Napoli.

Local media report ex-Chelsea boss Ancelotti has “personally contacted” the Argentine forward to try to convince him to join Napoli and be a “part of his sporting project” for the upcoming season.

This comes after Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis is said to have contacted Wanda Nara, Mauro Icardi’s wife and manager.

According to local media, Napoli have offered Icardi 8 million EUR (7.41 million GBP) per year in salary, plus bonuses.

However, reports state the player’s image rights must also be discussed before any agreement is reached.

The Argentinian international is looking for a new team after ex-Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku arrived at Inter Milan in this summer’s transfer window and boss Antonio Conte sees Lukaku as the main striking option.

Napoli can offer Icardi Champions League football after finishing second in Serie A last year.

The chance to participate in the prestigious European competition and a starting position are seen as two important factors in Napoli signing Icardi.

The team will have to act fast to secure the transfer as other Italian sides such as Juventus and Roma are also reportedly interested the striker.
