Police are investigating after a semi-naked man fell from the top of a five-floor building and survived after landing in shrubbery.

The incident happened on Jalan Peel road in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur where eyewitnesses claimed that the man in his 40s had jumped, although it is not known why.

Although the area below where the man jumped is a paved street, he was lucky enough to land in a small section with vegetation and soft ground left without paving stones to allow water to get to the roots in the soil below. It is believed this cushioned his fall enough to ensure that he survived.

Images showing him being treated by medics on the street below showing clearly alive and the man, who was not named, was then transported to hospital. There were also 13 firemen in attendance.

They were involved in moving the victim onto a special rigid stretcher in order to be moved into the ambulance to be taken to hospital.

He was tested for drugs and alcohol but no results were yet made public.

The man is currently being treated at the HUKM (Hospital Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia) and the investigations into this case are still ongoing.

Officials declined to comment on whether the man jumped or fell and on the background to the incident until the police investigation is complete.
