This is the moment an alert bus operator slams on the brakes and narrowly avoids driving over an e-bike rider who suddenly falls while staring at his mobile phone.

The heart-stopping incident happened on Jianye Road in the city of Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province in Central China, on 31st October.

Dashcam footage from the route 52 bus driven by Li Yanjie shows the unnamed male rider travelling in front of the bus on his electric bike.

As he swerves left and right on the road, the e-biker reaches into his pocket and fishes out his mobile phone.

But as he stares at the smartphone and takes his eyes off the road, the man suddenly takes a tumble and falls off his bike in front of the bus.

Mr Li slams on the brakes as the man falls into the undercarriage of his bus and narrowly avoids being run over.

Mr Li recalled: “He reached for his phone and suddenly fell over. I don’t know what happened.

“Luckily, I was driving very slowly. I immediately ran over and picked him up.

“He was lucky and he was lucky.”

The e-biker was not harmed, reports said.
