This is the moment an alert traffic cop saves a woman by grabbing her shoulder as she prepares to ride into as junction in front of a fast-approaching lorry.

A traffic camera in the city of Hangzhou, capital of East China’s Zhejiang Province, captured Yuhang District policeman Wang Wentao’s life-saving actions in full.

The footage dated 21st October shows Wang on duty at a junction between Keji Road and the East-West Avenue, monitoring traffic as vehicles drive past him.

The female scooter rider next to him suddenly begins moving and attempts to ride into the junction at the same time as a heavy good vehicle approaches from her left.

The police say the lorry driver was speeding through the junction during an amber light, and the scooterist was caught completely unawares.

With her vision likely impeded by her motorcycle helmet, the woman starts to rife onto the road, but the traffic policeman instinctively grabs the woman’s right shoulder, pulling her back as the huge lorry roars past her.

The lorry driver also appears to spot the danger and veers slightly to the left, slamming on his brakes and leaving a huge skid mark, and only narrowly avoiding a potentially fatal collision by mere feet.
