Alabama Man, 23, Slays Mum And Injures Two Relatives With Samurai Sword

An Alabama man has been arrested for slaying his own mother with a samurai sword as well as attacking two other relatives, including a bedridden Cerebral palsy sufferer.

The alleged attack took place in a property on Mausap Road in the city of Semmes in Mobile County in the US state of Alabama on the evening of Sunday, 16th January.

The Mobile County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) said officers were sent to the house after receiving a report that two people had suffered severe lacerations and one woman had been killed.

The victim was identified as Helen Nettles Washam, 61, and the two injured men were named as George Washam and Desmon Washam.

George, 52, the suspect’s uncle, was reportedly bedridden with Cerebral palsy and suffered severe lacerations to his face, according to the MCSO. He remains in a serious condition in hospital.

Desmon Washam, the victim’s son and suspect’s brother, suffered serious cuts to his wrist and was treated by paramedics at the scene.

The police named the main suspect as Damien Winslow Washam, 23, adding that the murder weapon was a samurai sword.

The suspect fled from the property before the police arrived at the home, and officers later spotted his vehicle on Highway 158.

Officers of the Saraland Police Department deployed spike strips to stop the suspect’s vehicle, and he then tried to escape on foot.

Using a stun gun, Washam was caught shortly afterwards and placed under arrest.

The police said the samurai sword he allegedly used to slay his own mother was found on the passenger seat of the vehicle he was driving.

Washam is being held in custody on charges of homicide, attempted murder, attempting to allude, and assault second-degree, according to the MCSO.
