An Afghan refugee on trial in German for stabbing his 20-year-old girlfriend to death in front of their baby daughter has told that “she was only a woman”.

The murder took place when he confronted her in a jealous rage in the town of Plattling in the district of Deggendorf in the German state of Bavaria at around 8 pm on 6th August last year.

The Afghan man named as Shaeiq S., 28, allegedly killed his girlfriend of five years, Tatjana S., 20, in front of their eight-month-old daughter after claiming she had freely admitted to cheating on him with several people, according to local media.

Shaeiq, who came to Germany in 2013 as an asylum seeker and was later recognised as a refugee, said he lost control when he heard his partner’s alleged confession.

On the day of the incident, an argument broke out when the young woman who had started the relationship with him when she was just 15 came to the snack bar called Shakas Imbiss that they both owned.

Shaeiq who had the keys to the mobile snack bar locked the door and allegedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife.

He had earlier written her SMS messages saying “you should be ashamed” and “Allah will punish you, Inschallah!“

Tatjana managed to escape and run to her car, but her partner quickly caught up with her and continued to stab her using a Japanese Santoku knife, according to reports.

The victim was stabbed 18 times and died on the scene.

After allegedly killing his partner, Shaeiq took their daughter while she was still in her maxi cosy baby carrier and ran away, still holding the knife in his hand.

Witnesses in the area immediately reported the incident, and the suspect was soon arrested and his child was taken into safekeeping.

During the first court hearing on Monday, the defendant told the prosecutor that he loses control when he drinks and admitted to having consumed several whiskies before the fight.

He said: “No normal person does that, but when I drink, I don’t know myself.”

He appeared to show remorse for what had happened saying she was a part of him and added: “I’ve lost part of myself.”

But he also claims he had become more and more convinced that the child was not his and added: “I had a dark spot in my heart, but the fact that things went so far was not planned.”

Later in the trial, he also shouted in the courtroom that he was not the evil one and laid the blame on his wife who he married under Islamic law and who had turned out to ‘be the devil’.

He said: “I am Adam. She is Eve. She is only a woman.”

The investigation revealed that Tatjana S. wanted to separate from him due to his drinking and jealousy and was intending to sell her share of their lounge bar. The accused admitted that he also wanted a divorce.

Shaeiq is now facing a sentence of life imprisonment.

The final hearing is scheduled for 12th March.
