This is the adorable moment a cute baby elephant enjoys a splash in her own paddling pool.

Malee, a month-old baby Asian elephant, was clearly delighted with the pool given to her by keepers to celebrate the start of spring at Pairi Daiza, a private zoo in the town of Brugelette in the Belgian province of Hainaut.

An eyewitness with a smartphone filmed the endangered elephant rolling over in the water as keepers sprayed her with a hosepipe.

And one-month-old Malee used her own trunk to join in the fun and to enjoy a well-earned cold drink on a sunny day at the zoo.

The footage delighted animal lovers after it was shared on social media by zoo keepers.

One anonymous commentator said: “This just made my morning”, while another added: “Oh how lovely, you can clearly see her enjoyment.”

Malee, which means ‘jasmine flower’, was named by visitors to the zoo. Her arrival means Pairi Daiza zoo now has a troop of 19 Asian elephants.

They are part of a pan-European breeding programme of the Asian elephant (Elephas maximus), which is endangered because of loss of habitat due to deforestation and poaching.

The species is listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List, with an estimated 30,000 remaining in the wild.
