This distressing footage shows a father hanging his toddler son by the his and beating him as the helpless youngster wails.

The 28-year-old parent named only as Mao recorded the footage and published it, along with one showing the dad shove his child into a puddle, online in order to spite his wife, who had walked out on the family, according to police who later arrested him. 

Authorities in Cangnan County in Wenzhou, a coastal city in China’s eastern Zhejiang Province, were alerted to the clips after they went online on 24th May.

The videos show Mr Mao hurling abuse at the boy, aged three, bringing the child to tears. 

But the abuse intensified with the parent appearing to hang the tot by the neck before punching and kicking him. 

In the videos, the boy swings back and forth wailing loudly as the father continues the abuse, which ends with the child being thrown in a ditch full of dirty sewage water. 

Arresting officers have revealed Mr Mao is the father of two sons and a daughter. 

His wife, Ms You, recently walked out on the poverty-stricken family, and Mr Mao recorded the videos to spite her and in a bid to force her return, the police said. 

Mr Mao remains in custody as further investigations continue.
