This footage showing a slaughterhouse worker slitting chickens’ throats before tossing them into a tub of water to drown a slow death has prompted an investigation after it shocked netizens when it was posted online.

The case which caused an online outrage is believed to have taken place in the town of Seri Kembangan in the state of Selangor in Malaysia.

The Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) reportedly said that the investigation of the chickens being allegedly slaughtered and placed in unhygienic conditions, which was not in accordance with Islamic law, is ongoing.

The video shows an employee slitting a chicken’s throat before tossing it into a tub of water while it is still alive and where it can then seen desperately thrashing around, while other workers can be seen handling dead chickens on a bloodied and seemingly dirty floor.

The footage continues with more chickens being grabbed from cages one after the other and having their throats slit before being ceremoniously tossed into a tub of water one by one.

The director of JAIS, Haris Kasim, reportedly said that they will give a statement once the investigation is done.

Islamic law requires that animals intended for human consumption be slain in a certain manner.

Netizen ‘Taufiq Abdul Rahim’ commented: “Time to be vegan.”

And ‘Robert Plant’ added: “Not only unhygienic its cruel.”

‘Toh Ong’ wrote: “Even chicken deserve a dignify death.” (sic)
