This is the squalid home where a 98-year-old woman has been found living with her 70-year-old son’s rotting dead body five days after he passed away.

The man’s body was found in Santa Ines in the city of Vina del Mar in the central Chilean region of Valparaiso after concerned neighbours called the local authorities because they had not seen the elderly family members for a number of days.

According to local media, cops on the scene had to force their way into the building and once inside they found the grisly decomposing body of the 70-year-old man.

Meanwhile, his elderly mum was found unable to move and she had not consumed any food or water for almost a week, according to reports.

Paramedics arrived and took the elderly woman to Gustavo Fricke Hospital here she is still being cared for.

The police said that the man had clear signs of malnourishment while neighbours reported that he was noisily complaining of stomach pains a week ago.

Investigators are looking into whether this reported pain is somehow linked to his death.

The 70-year-old man’s body has been sent for an autopsy to establish the cause of death.

Meanwhile, his OAP mum has been taken into care, according to head of social development Ricardo Figueroa.
