8 People Massacred At Petrol Station in Broad Daylight

Six men and two women were mowed down after being told to run by hooded gunmen who pulled up as they were having a drink together outside a petrol station in Mexico.

The incident was reported just after 6pm outside a Repsol petrol station in the neighbourhood of Manuel Avila Camacho, in the municipality of Apaseo el Alto in the southern Mexican province of Guanajuato.

Witnesses told local sources that the 8 people were stood chatting and drinking alcoholic beverages when at least two trucks with hooded and heavily armed men inside pulled up nearby them.

According to one witness report they heard the perpetrators shouting at them to run, then opened fire on them as soon as they did.

The names and ages of the victims are as of yet unknown.

According to a local police report, ambulances rushed to the scene, but found all eight victims dead upon arrival.

Local residents reported hearing a sudden burst of gunfire, which caused panic in the surrounding area.

According to media sources, an investigation has begun into the incident, although up until now the motives for the attack are unknown.

Government secretary Luis Ernesto Ayala Torres, posted on Twitter about the incident.
Ayala Torres wrote: “This afternoon in Avila Camacho de Apaseo el Alto we received the report of the death of eight people by gunfire. In the name of the Guanajuato government I have contacted the mayoress Carmen Ortiz, to offer my support and collaboration.”

Crime rates in the province of Guanajuato have reportedly increased in recent years, with 2,275 homicides registered in 2019. The principal problems are fuel smuggling, extortion and kidnapping.
