8-Day-Old Tot Is Israels Youngest COVID Patient

An eight-day-old baby boy has become Israel’s youngest coronavirus patient.

The baby, who has not been named in reports, was hospitalised at the Wolfson Medical Center in Holon in the metropolitan Gush Dan area on Monday suffering from a high fever and test revealed he had COVID-19 on Tuesday.

Local media report his mother who is with him in the hospital’s isolation ward has not shown any coronavirus symptoms and is awaiting coronavirus tests.

Doctors reportedly said the boy is in a good condition. The tot was born in Hadassah Hospital in Mount Scopus in West Jerusalem but it is not clear how or where he was infected.

According to the latest figures from the Johns Hopkins University Israel has suffered 12,046 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and the country’s Health Ministry reported on Tuesday that 181 patients were in serious condition, with 136 on ventilators.

Medical officials in the country say almost all of the victims in Israel have been elderly and suffered from preexisting medical conditions.
