This is the moment a young boy is found at the bottom of a 100-foot well before a fireman is lowered deep into the ground to rescue him and he survived virtually unscathed.

The seven-year-old, who has not been named, was playing above the brick well in the city of Loudi, in Central China’s Hunan Province, when he fell in on the afternoon of 11th December.

According to the fire service, the well at a construction site was filled with standing water, with the boy seen lying motionless at the bottom as rescuers called out to him.

The authorities set up a tripod above the 30-metre (100-foot) deep well in preparation for a rescue operation, saying they did their best to comfort the boy’s parents.

Fireman Ma Gaoqiang, who was the small among his colleagues, volunteered to be sent down the well to rescue the boy.

Footage of the operation shows him having been strapped into a harness and being lowered into the ground using the tripod pulley.

The fire service said it took an hour for the boy to be brought back to the surface, and he can be seen arriving safely while wearing a safety helmet.

His rescuer followed shortly after.

The authorities said the boy was checked by paramedics and found not to have suffered any serious injuries besides a few soft-tissue injuries.
